Visa regulations  for foreign citizens visiting the Kyrgyz Republic

Guidelines for foreign citizens and stateless individuals arriving to the Kyrgyz Republic

A foreign citizen or a stateless individual may enter the Kyrgyz Republic (KGZ) using passport or some other travel document with a valid Kyrgyz visa, subject to the international agreements signed by the Kyrgyz Republic. The list of the countries enjoying non-visa/ partial visa regime is attached as Annex 1.

Foreign nationals indicated in the list (Annex 2) may obtain a tourist visa for up to three months at the diplomatic missions or consulates of the Kyrgyz Republic without invitation.

Primarily the Kyrgyz visa must be obtained at the diplomatic missions of the Kyrgyz Republic abroad. In case of non-availability of the foreign missions of the Kyrgyz Republic in a particular country, the visa may be obtained from the diplomatic mission the Republic of Kazakhstan subject on the basis of the bilateral agreements.

Tourist visa is issued for the period of up to 3 months with the possibility of further extension for additional 3 months in the Kyrgyz Republic. . For obtaining a tourist visa, it is required to submit personal written application, passport or travelling document, and visa application form.

Transit visa is issued for the period not exceeding 5 days. For obtaining this visa, it is required to submit personal application enclosing a transportation ticket with the visa of the country of destination, and visa application form.

Rates indicated in the Annex 5 are valid for the Kyrgyz Republic only. For further inquiries on issuance of visa, Overseas Missions, Department of Consular Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic may be approached (address: Bishkek, 10 a Togolok Moldo St., Tel.: ( + ) ( 996 ) ( 312 ) 66 32 70, 66 07 06 ), or Consular Camp Offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (Attachment 6).

In order to avoid violation of the stay regime in the country as well as legal status of foreign nationals and stateless individuals following should be kept in mind:

1. On arrival to the point of destination, a foreign national or stateless person must get their national passport or other travelling document registered with the Interior Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic, its territorial offices, or hotels within 5 days (except for holders of diplomatic passports and foreign nationals listed in Annex 2).

2. While leaving the place of residence (hotel, private house, etc.) it is requited to have national passport or some other travelling document.

3. In case of loss or theft of passport, a foreign national or stateless person is required to approach the nearest police department for issuance of a report on loss of the passport (document), which would be presented to the respective Embassy or Consulate of his country for onward issuance of a travelling document required to stay and depart (Annex 4).

4. If stopped by militia patrol for identification check, one is advised to present the passport only, while there is no need to show the belongings in the handbags or pockets.

5. If noticed misuse of powers on part of police authorities, it is advised to get as more information about the officers as possible, i.e. name, rank, and place of work, and report this information to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Embassy, Ministry of Interior of the Kyrgyz Republic, and Bishkek Police Department.

6. If you do not understand local languages and the process of identification check is deliberately delayed, try to request for the services of translator out of those surrounding you.

Note: The fine amounting to Som 1,000/= is applied for violation of visa regime in the Kyrgyz Republic.

Annex 1

I. Nationals holding any type of passport of the following countries are exempted from visa requirement to enter Kyrgyz Republic for the whole period of their stay in the country:

1. Azerbaijan Republic, 2. Republic of Armenia, 3. Republic of Belorussia, 4. Georgia, 5. Republic of Kazakhstan, 6. Korean Democratic People’s Republic, 7. Republic of Cuba, 8. Malaysia ( with official and tourist purpose up to one month ), 9. Republic of Moldova, 10. Mongolia ( up to three months ), 11. Russian Federation, 12. Socialistic Republic of Vietnam, 13. Republic of Tajikistan, 14.  Republic of Turkey ( up to one month ), 15. Ukraine, 16.  Japan.

II. Nationals holding diplomatic and official passports of the following countries are exempted from visa requirement to enter the Kyrgyz Republic for the period up to one month:

1. Republic of Hungary, 2. People’s Republic of China ( also for holders of general civil passports for official use ), 3. Turkmenistan, 4. Republic of Uzbekistan.

III. Nationals holding diplomatic passports of following countries are exempted from visa requirement to enter Kyrgyz Republic:

(1) Republic of Austria; (2) Kingdom of Belgium; (3) United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; (4) Greek Republic; (5) Kingdom of Denmark; (6) Republic of Island; (7) Kingdom of Spain; (8) Islamic Republic of Iran (up to one month);  (9) Italian Republic; (10) Canada; (11) Great Duchy of Luxembourg; (12) Kingdom of Netherlands; (13) Kingdom of Norway; (14) Portugal Republic; (15) United States of America; (16) Federative Republic of Germany; (17) Finish Republic; (18) French Republic; (19) Swiss Confederation; (20) Kingdom of Sweden.

Annex 2

As of 12 July 2010, nationals holding all types of passports of the following countries may obtain Kyrgyz Visas in the overseas missions and consular offices within the Republic on their personal request for the period of up to three months, and are exempted from registration with the law enforcement agencies in the Kyrgyz Republic:

(1)     Australia; (2) Austrian Republic; (3) Kingdom of Belgium; (4) Bulgaria; (5)Bosnia and Herzegovina; (6) United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; (7)Republic of Hungary; (8) Federative Republic of Germany; (9) Greek Republic; (10) Kingdom of Denmark; (11) State of Israel; (12)  Ireland Republic; (13) Republic of Iceland; (14) Kingdom of Spain; (15) Italian Republic; (16) Canada; (17)Czech Republic; (18) Croatia; (19) Republic of Cyprus; (20) Republic of Montenegro; (21) Republic of Korea; (22) Lithuania; (23) Latvia; (24) Duchy of Liechtenstein; (25) Great Duchy of Luxembourg; (26) Republic of Macedonia; (27) Republic of Malta; (28) Duchy of Monaco; (29) Kingdom of Netherlands; (30) Kingdom of Norway; (31) New Zealand; (32) Republic of Poland; (33) Romania; (34) Republic of Serbia; (35) Republic of  Slovenia; (36) Portugal Republic; (37) United States of America; (38) Finland Republic; (39) French Republic; (40) Singapore; (41) Slovak Republic; (42)Swiss Confederation; (43) Kingdom of Sweden; (44) Estonia.

As of 12 July 2010, nationals holding all types of passports of the following countries do not need prior authorization from the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry to apply for visa. They may obtain upon their request a Kyrgyz visa at Kyrgyz Consulates for the period of up to three months:

(1) Argentina; (2) Andorra; (3) Brazil; (4) Vatican; (5) Vietnam; (6) Thailand; (7) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; (8) Mexico; (9) United Arab Emirates; (10) San Marino; (11) Philippines.
